Subject: Update and Additional Survey on Bell Times

Dear Student,

You may have heard about Durham Student Transportation Services’ (DSTS) recent bell time review and public consultation process. Through the month of February, families, students, and staff from Durham District School Board (DDSB) and Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) were able to provide feedback about bell times for the 2022-23 school year.

The options proposed for your secondary school included a change from the current 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. bell times to an 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. schedule. What we heard from students and families through survey and ThoughtExchange responses, was that the current 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. bell times may be a preferred schedule for some families.

DSTS has identified that the following schools could be accommodated with a 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. bell time without a significant increase in fleet and drivers:

  • Brooklin High School
  • Donald A. Wilson Secondary School
  • O’Neill C.V.I.
  • Pickering High School
  • Pine Ridge Secondary School
  • Port Perry High School

We are following up to ask whether you prefer an 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. bell times through this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TXJRL6T and ask that this be completed by Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. for consideration.

Following the analysis of additional feedback received through this survey, a report will be presented to the Board of Trustees for a final decision on 2022-23 school year bell times on April 19, 2022

If you have any questions, please contact DSTS at 289-278-7171.

Sincerely,

Durham District School Board on behalf of Durham Student Transportation Service
